Singer Kate Bush to use James Joyce’s “Ulysses” by jjqblog

The James Joyce Estate has given permission to 52-year-old singer/songwriter Kate Bush to use Molly Bloom’s soliloquy for the lyrics to her song “Flower of the Mountain.” In 1989, Bush first approached the estate to use extracts from Ulysses for her song “The Sensual World,” but she was refused. Bush’s new album Director’s Cut, which includes “Flower of the Mountain,” is a revisiting of those 1989 tracks, and this time–twenty years later–the James Joyce estate has agreed to Bush’s use of “Ulysses.” Director’s Cut will be released on May 13.

This will not be Bush’s first literary song: watch her music video of her song “Wuthering Heights.”

More information on Bush and the JJ Estate can be found here.
