Joyce’s Passport by jjqblog

Sotheby’s newest catalog has on offer a handful of Joyce-related materials for a 14 July auction.  These include two mildly interesting letters, including one to Ford Madox Ford, who senses its potential value and makes a note about tipping it safely into a copy of Ulysses.  The most interesting item on offer, however, is a copy of the Joyce family’s wartime passport, which includes visas for travel to Italy, Paris, and Switzerland.  Although of minimal literary import, it is a striking visual document.  Alas it is a bit too dear for this humble blog with an auction estimate of 50,000-70,000 GBP.
