Joyce and High Finance by jjqblog

According to a recent article in the Irish Times, it appears that the worldwide financial crisis has somehow managed to entangle even our beloved Bloomsday.  An attempt by Joe Costello to introduce a bill in the Dáil declaring June 16th a national holiday to celebrate the island’s “rich literary heritage” was derailed when it was learned that such move would likely have to be approved by bankers at the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.  Looks like Stephen’s A.E.I.O.U. has to give way to its more modern formulation: E.U.I.O.U.
