Virginia Woolf and James Joyce Conference to be Held in Milan in December by jjqblog

Francesca Orestano and Caroline Patey are co-coordinating a conference provisionally entitled “1882… 1941…2011 Parallaxes. Virginia Woolf Meets James Joyce” that will run the 13th-14th of December 2011 held at the Università degli Studi in Milan, Italy.  The conference will focus on the personal and literary relationship between Woolf and Joyce: “Seventy years after their death in 1941, we wish to explore and assess the inheritance of such towering figures of modernity and modernism as Woolf and Joyce, whose aesthetic stance and dialogue, however   wary their personal relationship and reciprocal opinion, has affected the destiny of literature in English in unforeseen and irreversible ways.”  Topic headings for paper proposals include:

-The revolution of style and narrative
-Industries and offshoots
-Translating the untranslatable?
-Urban languages
-Other media
