The Zurich James Joyce Foundation will be holding a workshop on Lying entitled “Putting Truth and Un-Truth Together.”  The range of topics includes but is not limited to “Falsehood, Reports, Deceit, Rumour, Statements, Legends, Stereotypes, Facts, Dissimulation, Fiction, sleeping dogs and all Gradations of Truth, naturally all in connection with Joyce.”  The workshop will run from August 5th-11th 2012 but attendees are encouraged to make use of the Foundation’s materials before and after the scheduled events.  In the past, workshop activities have included evening dinners, social gatherings, and a boat ride on the lake.  Space restrictions limit the workshop to 20 spots (register early!) and participation costs 150 Swiss Fr.  Area accommodations can be found on the internet.  Please include the phrase “Lying-Truth” in your subject line to insure no submissions get overlooked.

These Zurich workshops are discussion based and interactive and the event description emphasizes that “There will be no extended lectures, absolutely no reading of papers, no reciting of typescripts.”  Past workshops have been held on Cyclops, Oxen of the Sun, Eumaeus, FW II, 1, Songs, Synaesthesia, Documentary InSights, Repetition/Negation, Dreaming, “Homer behind Joyce behind Homer”, Chance/Coincidence, Kitsch, Expectation, Performance, Alienation, Material Joyce, Naming, “Erroriboose”, “Musicillogical Joyce”, and Food: “NurturingJoyce.”  Access more information at the foundations website: www.joycefoundation.ch
